Your First Appointment
We understand seeing a surgeon can feel daunting. Here is everything you need to know — before, during, and after your first visit.
Your referral letter plus any written reports, images, discs or USB drives. If not sent in advance, please bring them on the day.
A current list of all medications you are taking, including supplements.
Medicare card, Private Health Fund card, and any concession cards.
Arrival
Check in at reception and complete any required paperwork. Dr Kowsi aims to run on time — we appreciate your patience.
Consultation
A thorough, unrushed consultation including examination and discussion of your full history and investigation findings.
Next steps
If more tests are required before a plan is finalised, Dr Kowsi will arrange these and follow up with you.
If surgery needed
Benefits, risks, and costs will be clearly explained. You will have ample time to ask questions before any decision.

Support & Education
The following is a list of beneficial resources for breast cancer patients and their families. If you have any medical questions or concerns, please contact us or discuss them with your doctor.
National Support
Provides support and information to patients and families about diagnosis and treatment. Includes access to an online community forum and a Helpline where you can speak directly to a qualified cancer nurse.
Personalised Tool
An online tool developed by BCNA containing a large amount of information which can be tailored to your stage in the treatment process. Information is regularly reviewed and updated by BCNA.
Queensland
Provides general information about a wider range of cancer types. They also host an online support community and run a telephone information and support service available Monday to Friday.
Local Support
A supportive environment at the Wesley Hospital for individuals going through a cancer diagnosis and their loved ones. Services include cancer nurses, support groups, physiotherapy, counsellors, and complementary therapies.
Charity & Community
A charity organisation for women diagnosed with cancer who have children aged 12 or younger. They focus on providing practical support tailored to individual needs during treatment, and also host a closed online Facebook group for social support.
